Thomas H. Barr and Company were based in Terre Haute, Indiana and sold regionally. Their product was Barr's Pectoral Elixir, "for various affections of the Lungs and Throat, such as Colds, Coughs, Croup, Asthma, Influenza, Hoarseness, Bronchitis, and Incipient Consumption, and for relief of Consumptive patients in advanced stages of the disease." Private die stamps were issued from October, 1870 through May 3, 1871. 26,250 were printed, all on old paper.

These stamps undoubtedly would be much rarer if a collector had not located a supply of 1,500 of them on original packages in the 1890's.
