The Orono Match Company and that of its successor, Allen & Powers, were the source of the only two private die match stamps from Maine. The Orono stamps were issued between June of 1866 and August, 1885. 6,992,140 were issued on old paper and 5,360,360 on silk paper. The stamp above is on silk paper.


Allen & Powers was the successor organization to Orono Match Company. The stamp design is the same except for the different manufacturer's name. The stamps were issued between February of 1876 and October, 1882. 6,401,510 were issued on silk, pink and watermarked paper. This stamp is on silk paper.
